5 things learned from Bill Condon’s Breaking Dawn part 1 commentary

If you haven’t picked up your copy of Breaking Dawn part 1 yet and watched all the commentaries, the Examiner put together this great list of the top 5 things we learned from Bill Condon’s Breaking Dawn part 1 commentary :
  • On Deleted Scenes
Condon pointed out three scenes that were shot but later removed from Breaking Dawn – Part 1. The first was an introductory scene featuring the Volturi in which “Aro” (Michael Sheen) receives his wedding announcement. This was briefly seen in the first trailer for Part 1, but Condon explained that its removal was due to the fact that he believed it didn’t fit well with the theme of the movie – that the focus should not be on the threat of the Volturi but rather the story of “Bella” (Kristen Stewart) and “Edward” (Robert Pattinson) and the immediate obstacle they face with the baby. A second scene removed involved “Rosalie” (Nikki Reed) and “Jacob” (Taylor Lautner) and the dog dish, and the reason for taking it out was that Condon believed it wasn’t an appropriate time for light humor at that moment. Finally, the little brawl between “Edward” and “Jacob” which was also teased in the trailer was taken out because Condon believed it would make their presentation of the imprinting concept contradictory.
  • Gushing About the Cast
One thing that became very clear during Bill Condon’s commentary was his affection for the cast. He admitted to being excited about the chance to work with Kristen Stewart before he ever took the job of directing these movies (“That was really appealing, and believe me, the experience didn’t disappoint. I learned so much, and I was blown away,” he gushed), but he also grew to immensely respect everyone involved in the cast and had a few predictions as to where the Twilight trio might head later on in their careers. He predicted Stewart would be heading for the director’s chair herself, that Robert Pattinson might wind up writing a few scripts, and that Taylor Lautner would be well-suited to produce movies or head up a studio of his own.
