Have you wondered what a Twilight fan that is NOT familiar with the story of Breaking Dawn might have thought of Part 1? What was a shock and what was a nice surprise? My sister is a 38-year-old mother of four. She loves the Twilight films but she isn’t much a reader (let’s blame the four kids). So she went into the theater yesterday to watch the film without knowing anything about it, except that they get married and she gets pregnant. We chatted in detail about her viewing experience and what she loved (Rob!) and what she didn’t (wolfpack yelling).
On the imprinting scene:
I didn’t know Jacob imprinted on the baby. It was kinda weird but I was glad the way they did it that he saw her as an adult. Like he had loved her her whole life. It would be kind of creepy if he had imprinted on the baby and was in love with the baby.It was also weird for me that he was a wolf and was imprinting on a half vampire/half human. Also, all the other wolves had imprinted on people from their tribe.
On what she wanted to see more of:
I could have had more love scenes. I could have had more honeymoon first night scenes. Everyone’s waited for it for so long.
On sick CGI Bella:
She looked really gross. They did a great job of making her look nasty.
I asked her if she could tell that Edward has to chew the baby out of the womb:
No I thought he used a scalpel. I thought his mouth was bloody from biting her to infect her with venom.
On Bella’s death:
I didn’t know she dies, I didn’t know he brings her back.
One of the little things that bugged her:
During the wedding, Edward had dry lips. They were crusty from his makeup. I could see he had a lot of foundation on his chin and it looked gross.
On happy Daddy Edward:
I loved that he was really sweet and happy when he delivered the baby and he saw it was a girl and her name is Renesmee. I just hope it picks up right where it left off so we can see him with the baby there and her alive. And for them to be so happy.
Would your husband like it? (She has one of the few husbands that is willing to watch the Twilightfilms)
Yes, we are going to rent it.
On what she hated:
When the wolves were all standing in a circle screaming at each other, I thought ‘Oh no!” Why couldn’t they just be communicating without all the weird effects like the echos and the growling. It was the only time when you are sitting in the theater and you realize you’re 38 years old. It’s like you are taken out of the film and you can see them reading the script.
On Taylor’s acting and Jacob’s evolution:
I thought Jacob had grown up a whole lot. He acted like a grown up. That was really good acting!
When I mentioned I was going to write this post using her comments
Tell Rob if he wants to call me and get my first-hand opinion. He was REALLY fine in this movie. Really really. When an actor can be a really great actor, you don’t look at him and think “oh he’s kind of gross there.” He didn’t have any moments where I thought he looked disgusting. When he walked out alone and untucked his shirt, I loved that. But when he was standing out there waiting for her and he looked like a ten-year old boy. I just thought, they are really young. They wouldn’t like meet in the water. Wouldn’t it be more awkward, like in The Notebook?
Her final say:
I LOVED IT. I need to see it again so I can take more of it in.
