Deadline is now reporting that Joseph Morgan – who Michael Ausiello (of TVLine, which is associated with Deadline) leaked was nearing a deal to play Klaus on The Vampire Diaries – has indeed signed a deal to play the oft-mentioned, yet-to-be-seen Original. This seems to be the confirmation we’ve all been anxiously waiting for (we certainly hope so).
You may recognize Morgan from British series Hex, Master & Commander, or the mini-series Ben-Hur.

[Morgan] was set for the show after more than 100 actors read for the role all over the world. Morgan’s deal was made by WME, Richard Koenigsberg Management and London-based Curtis Brown Group.
